While in the military, David Perry (310-846-5100 x110) became interested in photography. David wanted to make a career out of his passion, but knew that he had to make a living. After working in sales and marketing for various corporations, David decided to put himself on commission and branch out on his own. Instead of photographing models and actresses, David focused on corporate work. His present company, PHOTOVISIONS INC, was financed out of pocket. However, prior to starting his new company, David’s life had taken a wrong direction. Nearly destroyed by a drug and alcohol addiction, David was homeless for three years. But after going through recovery, David picked himself up and continued pursuing his entrepreneurial dream. Since then, his company has gone national by building relationships and alliances with corporations such as Verizon. The company’s primary focus is on corporate assignments, but it also does weddings, parties, and sporting events. A major future assignment will be to cover the 2004 Olympics in Athens, Greece. Thomas Heaton is someone who I’ve been wanting to collaborate with for ages. I love his YouTube videos, and he’s one of the photography vlogs I faithfully follow. So, I was excited at the opportunity to team up for a hiking, wild camping, and landscape photography adventure in The Lake District with him.
It was also cool to head off and photograph a location here in England that’s so familiar to him. It’s really great to be guided around, as a photographer, rather than spending hours searching around and location scouting.
We started our wild camping and photography adventure without much of a plan. We knew that we wanted to hike up to some cool views in the Lake District, but we didn’t know for sure where we wanted to go. The weather changes so quickly and varies from valley to valley, so your really have to play things by ear. I really trusted Thomas Heaton’s local knowledge and insticts.
Eventually, we went up a cool lake (tarn) called Sprinkling Tarn. It’s a cool spot, because it was actually the location of the first ever Thomas Heaton vlog.
You can see that first photography vlog here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r66-dOTSRlo
The location is really cool, and an epic spot for some landscape photography. And, the light looked like it was going to be really amazing as well. For a minute, it was. Then, as quick as it popped, the light disappeared.
But, even with no perfect sunset, we decided to have some fun. So, I had a race to set up my tent against Thomas Heaton. It was close, and he called it a draw. But, the reality is that he did beat me by a second or two.
Our wild camping spot up in the Lake District was just epic. Such a perfect location to spend the night, and I’m totally appreciative of Thomas for taking me up to that spot.
I ended this photography vlog with a little bit of a chat talking about how nice it is to meet one of the YouTubers your really respect and admire to find out that they’re exactly as genuine as they seem on their vlog.
Thomas Heaton is exactly as he appears on his videos. He’s totally in love with landscape photography and has a great passion for what he does. It’s refreshing to see that.
Tomorrow, we’re off on another hike here in the Lake District. The morning we get some insane light for landscape photography. Be sure to come back and check it out.

Today, I am showing you guys how add some LIFE to a photo by turning it into a cinemagraph. If you have never made one, or always wanted to try it – this is how!
Cinemagraphs are a great way to explore a new territory in both photo and cinema and how we can tie those two worlds together. Turn a dull photo into something visually stimulating or use some creativity to come up with incredible ways to tell a story through this super awesome medium.

Under the Distinguished Patronage of the President of the Italian Republic, Stories of Friendship is Accademia Apulia’s latest photography exhibition. It aims to highlight the important contribution Apulia made in securing the end of World War II – a fact largely unknown by the international community.
However, the focus of this exhibition is not so much on weapons, uniforms, combat techniques, as on ordinary people’s stories who, revealing their humanity, show a perspective of a bygone era.
Over one hundred prints from the archives of the Imperial War Museum, compliments of Stampa Sud, provide a new insight into some of the most significant encounters between British soldiers and the civilian population.
The Museum of the Order of St John, London, from 21/07/2014 to 29/08/2014
